Jhinyari Devi

While travelling from Amb to Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh about 5 Km before you reach Hamirpur, you will find a place Jol Sappad, as you climb up the road you will find to your left a small temple of Mata Jhinyari Devi. Mata Jhinyari Devi is the "KUL DEVI" of the Kalia Parivar of Jakhera (Una) Himachal Pradesh. There is a long story about the Mata and how the temple was built. It is said that the Raja of Nahan was once suggested that he bring the Devi to his kingdom. In those days when travelling was on foot. People used to rest for the night at diffent places as travelling distances would take days. Specially while travelling with the Devi it was more time consuming. The rituals and the Pujas had to be performed from time to time. It was one such stop at Jol Sapad, when the Yatra was to begin, it was found that the idol of Mata Jhinyari Devi could not be lifted, and so the Raja of Nahan procured the area around the Place and requested the Kalia Brahmins (Saraswat) to be the caretakers there. Since that day The Kalia Parivar has been the Caretaker of Mata Jhinyari Devi. In time there was some dispute between the Bhardwaj's of that area and Kalia's a litigation took place, which was fought in courts at that time, and the Lahore Court decided to give the Bhardwaj some rights to the Mandir. At present the Kalia's and the Bhardwaj's take care of the mandir on Specific Days of the month.
