Kalia Family Tree (Parivar)

On Nov 30, 1995 morning, I was getting ready for work when I received the message that my father Shri Bhanu Prakash Kalia is no more. I packed my bag and went to my native village, Jakhera Dist Una in Himachal Pradesh. At the village we have mourning which goes for days. Relatives and friends visit us to pay respect for the departed soul. During such visits I came to know about several stories about our great ancestors, and now as time has passed I have collected more of them. I have also made the Family Tree of the Kalia's of Jakhera. Here I'm putting my findings about the Kalia Parivar (Family) If you get a chance to read the "Jati Bhaskar" the book which tells about the different castes (Jati) and their beginning. Under the Brahmin Khand you will find Saraswat Brahmin's. It is in this chapter that you will find the Kalia's, so we can say that Kalia's are Saraswat Brahmins. In the book there are two stories about the Saraswat Brahmins. As per the records which I could find. The upper most link I could get was of Shi Ganga Ram ji also known as Danu. Shri Ganga Ram ji had a son Shri Kali Ram ji (alias Balia), and Shri Kali Ram had a son Shri Dhyan ji. Shri Dhyan ji had four sons, Shri Gurumukh ji, (Wife Deru) Shri Moti ji, Shri Suchet ji and Shri Zhanda ji. (wife Deso). Shri Gurumukh ji and wife Smt Deru had three sons Shri Kundan Ram ji, (wife Gurdehi ) Shri Nehala ji, Shri Ram Saran ji.(wife Gulab Dehi) It is interesting to note that Gurdehi and Gulabdehi were sisters from a village 'Pachrande' In the year 1917 Vikram Samvat that is 1860 A.D. Smt Gurdehi had kept "Somvati Vrat" Smt Deru died in 1940 Vikram Samvat, that is in 1883 A.D. and Shri Kundan Ram ji went to Gaya, carrying the "astiyan". Shri Kundan Ram ji died in Vikram Samvat 1984,That would be in the year 1927 A.D.

I wanted to put the same in form of a chart but till date I have failed. If some one helps me out I shall try.

By that time I will try to add stories of different Members of the Family (In case you have any do let me know

Jhinyari Devi

While travelling from Amb to Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh about 5 Km before you reach Hamirpur, you will find a place Jol Sappad, as you climb up the road you will find to your left a small temple of Mata Jhinyari Devi. Mata Jhinyari Devi is the "KUL DEVI" of the Kalia Parivar of Jakhera (Una) Himachal Pradesh. There is a long story about the Mata and how the temple was built. It is said that the Raja of Nahan was once suggested that he bring the Devi to his kingdom. In those days when travelling was on foot. People used to rest for the night at diffent places as travelling distances would take days. Specially while travelling with the Devi it was more time consuming. The rituals and the Pujas had to be performed from time to time. It was one such stop at Jol Sapad, when the Yatra was to begin, it was found that the idol of Mata Jhinyari Devi could not be lifted, and so the Raja of Nahan procured the area around the Place and requested the Kalia Brahmins (Saraswat) to be the caretakers there. Since that day The Kalia Parivar has been the Caretaker of Mata Jhinyari Devi. In time there was some dispute between the Bhardwaj's of that area and Kalia's a litigation took place, which was fought in courts at that time, and the Lahore Court decided to give the Bhardwaj some rights to the Mandir. At present the Kalia's and the Bhardwaj's take care of the mandir on Specific Days of the month.
